    Self-adjointness of momentum operators in generalized coordinates.J. M. Domingos & M. H. Caldeira - 1984 - Foundations of Physics 14 (2):147-154.
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the clarification of concepts usually found in books on quantum mechanics, aided by knowledge from the field of the theory of operators in Hilbert space. Frequently the basic distinction between bounded and unbounded operators is not established in books on quantum mechanics. It is repeatedly overlooked that the condition for an unbounded operator to be symmetric (Hermitian) is not sufficient to make it self-adjoint. To make things worse, nearly all operators in (...)

    The quantization of the Hamiltonian in curved space.J. M. Domingos & M. H. Caldeira - 1984 - Foundations of Physics 14 (7):607-623.
The construction of the quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian by canonical quantization is examined. The results are used to enlighten examples taken from slow nuclear collective motion. Hamiltonians, obtained by a thoroughly quantal method (generator-coordinate method) and by the canonical quantization of the semiclassical Hamiltonian, are compared. The resulting simplicity in the physics of a system constrained to lie in a curved space by the introduction of local Riemannian coordinates is emphasized. In conclusion, a parallel is established between the result for various coordinates (...)

Scelza, Stephen Stich, Chris von Rueden, Wanying Zhao & Stephen Laurence - 2016 - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 113 (17):4688–4693.
Intent and mitigating circumstances play a central role in moral and legal assessments in large-scale industrialized societies. Al- though these features of moral assessment are widely assumed to be universal, to date, they have only been studied in a narrow range of societies. We show that there is substantial cross-cultural variation among eight traditional small-scale societies (ranging from hunter-gatherer to pastoralist to horticulturalist) and two Western societies (one urban, one rural) in the extent to which intent and mitigating circumstances influence (...)

    The Future of Psychopharmacological Enhancements: Expectations and Policies.M. H. N. Schermer, I. Bolt, R. De Jongh & B. Olivier - 2009 - Neuroethics 2 (2):75-87.
The hopes and fears expressed in the debate on human enhancement are not always based on a realistic assessment of the expected possibilities. Discussions about extreme scenarios may at times obscure the ethical and policy issues that are relevant today. This paper aims to contribute to an adequate and ethically sound societal response to actual current developments. After a brief outline of the ethical debate concerning neuro-enhancement, it describes the current state of the art in psychopharmacological science and current uses (...)

Recent literature has highlighted issues of racial discrimination in medicine. In order to explore the sometimes subtle influence of racial determinants in decisions about resource allocation, we present the case of a 53-year-old Australian Aboriginal woman with end-stage renal failure. The epidemiology of renal failure in the Australian Aboriginal population and amongst other indigenous peoples is discussed. We show that the use of utilitarian outcome criteria for resource allocation may embody subtle racial discrimination where consideration is not given to issues (...)

Se presentan las ecuaciones pertinentes ejemplificando por medio de casos reales. También se argumentan las situaciones en donde se debe utilizar estos casos específicos. Palabras claves. Caso multietápico, muestreo de respuesta aleatoria, submuestreo.. The basics of multi-stage sampling, sub-sampling and random response sampling are analyzed. Detailed equations regarding these types of sampling are provided. The applications of these types of (...)

We are each the product of our development. The nature of the developmental process by which each of us was formed is described from gametogenesis to neonatality. The varied influences upon that process and their relative balance and patterns of interaction are then considered. In particular, the relative importance of epigenetic and genetic factors is discussed. It is concluded that development is a continuous process involving epigenetic/genetic interactions throughout. The contemporary emphasis on the genetic basis for human individuality is reviewed (...)
